Polylatic acid (PLA) electrospun fiber mats have demonstrated their wide applications in the wound dressing and filtration. However, the size of the fiber diameter affects the porosity, which has been restricting its development. Here, a method of preparing ultrafine fiber mat was established by the 3-arm PLA electrostatic spray microspheres, and the 3-arm PLA ultrafine fibers were prepared with a fiber diameter of 40-100 nm which could be used as an effective bio-material for blocking bacteria. By analyzing the ultrafine formation mechanism of the 3-arm PLA fibers, it is found that controlling the curing degree of microspheres may play a main role in the formation of ultrafine fibers. This work has potential applications in the wound dressings and barriers to bacteria. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
