Nanotechnology has evolved in many directions over the last decade. The current review study summarizes a number of important research works that have been published on rheology of ionanofluids. Nanodispersions of this type are best known for their remarkably enhanced thermal properties. In practical applications, the determination of parameters such as convective heat transfer, pressure drop and necessary pumping power, requires a thorough examination of rheological properties. Therefore, this review study describes the impact of the most important factors on rheology of ionanofluids including: ionic liquid structure, nanoparticle properties and concentration, period of dispersing time at the preparation stage, temperature, shear rate, and oscillation frequency. Furthermore, our work contains a description of the conventional rheological models related to ionanofluid viscosity. All collected research works have been arranged according to the type of rheological techniques used in them. This approach makes possible to identify some gaps in the literature, establishing coordinates for the future research and the practical applications. (C) 2020 The Authors.
