The aim of this study was to prepare the new chitosan derivative nanofibers and evaluate their potential in the prevention of local breast cancer recurrence. In this work, the anticancer properties of nanofibers were increased and the side effects of using them were minimized. The chemical structure and morphology of the nanofibers were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), CHNS elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In vitro release behavior of curcumin from the electrospun nanofibers was also studied in detail. The results of MIT assay show the prepared nanofibers have excellent anticancer activity against 4T1 breast cancer cells and no cytotoxic effects on the normal cells. Furthermore, these nanofibers are highly effective against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and show excellent potency to use in suppressing bacterial infections. These results suggest the promising application of the nanofibers for prevention of breast cancer recurrence.
