The understanding of the molecular basis of the stereoselective formation of diastereomeric guest-host complexes for the rationalization of the enantioseparation process in chromatography and electromigration techniques has been a continuing interest in separation sciences. For this purpose, analytical separations were combined with spectroscopic techniques, especially nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, as well as molecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulation studies in order to draw conclusions on spatial arrangements of the selector-selectand complexes as well as insight into binding equilibria and thermodynamics. The present review highlights recent contributions to the understanding of the enantiorecognition mechanisms of important chiral selectors based on macrocyclic glycopeptides, donor-acceptor-type selectors, chiral ion-exchangers, chiral ligand-exchangers as well chiral micelles published between 2016 and mid 2019.
