2,5-Diphenylfuran was used as chemical trap for indirect detection of singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) in ionic liquids (ILs). O-1(2) was generated by photosensitization of Rose Bengal and the first order quenching rate constants of O-1(2) were determined by UV-vis spectroscopy. The effects of the ILs structure on the rate constants were discussed. Furthermore, the generation of O-1(2) in ILs was directly confirmed by means of the time-resolved NIR emission spectroscopy. The correlations between O-1(2) lifetimes and the rate constants of 2,5-diphenylfuran quenching were elucidated, from perspectives of cationic and anionic structure of ILs, respectively.
