Ferroelectric, dielectric and pyroelectric properties of Mn-doped Pb(Mg-1/3 Nb-2/3)O-3-0.28PbTiO(3) (PMN-0.28 PT) single crystals has been investigated with surfaces of different roughness, and thickness in the range of 487-16 mu m. The crystals were grown by modified Bridgman method and treated by mechanical lapping and chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) for different thickness and surface. The experimental results indicate that the lapping process deteriorates the ferroelectric, dielectric, and pyroelectric performances by introducing domain reorientation and damage into the surface, which can be substantially reduced by polishing process. The surface state exhibits greater impact on the ferroelectric, dielectric and pyroelectric performances when the sample thickness becomes smaller. By lapping, the 109 degrees and 71 degrees domain reorientation occurs along with the generation of non-ferroelectric damage layer, the surface stress and defects. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
