Multifunctional material for simultaneous pollutants removal and nutrient release is a novel, economical, and sustainable strategy to reuse agricultural wastewater and improve crop growth. Herein, we synthesized a multifunctional porous carbon by using beta-cyclodextrin MOF (beta-CD MOF) both as precursor and potassium source. The obtained carbon material (beta-CD MOF-NPC) was equipped with microporous structure, large surface areas, and rich potassium element content, as determined by comprehensive characterization results. The batch adsorption experiments indicated beta-CD MOF-NPC possessed efficient adsorptive removal ability of four amide herbicides from water, which might be through pi-pi interaction, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic interaction. Besides, the beta-CD MOF-NPC could effectively contribute to the growth of rice seedlings cultured in herbicide-contaminated wastewater by simultaneous adsorption of herbicides and release of potassium ions in the pot experiments. This study indicated beta-CD MOF-NPC integrated the function of adsorbent and fertilizer, which is a promising material for sustainable and economical agriculture.
