The ion sulfurizing treatment was carried out on Fe, Ni and Co based laser cladding coatings in this paper. The microstructures and tribological behaviors of the treated specimens were investigated. The results showed that the sulfurizing layers dominated by FeS phase were successfully fabricated on the coatings. The tribological properties of the sulfurized coatings were remarkably improved. The sulfurizing layers on Co based coatings showed the lowest friction coefficient, wear rate and best tolerance on loads and sliding velocities, the sulfurizing layers on Fe based coatings showed the highest wear rate. The hardness as well as corrosion resistance of the coatings and the lubricant phases of the sulfurizing layers determined the differences in tribological properties of the sulfurizing layers.
