For the first time, the solubilities of sertraline hydrochloride in SC-CO2, as a binary system, and SC-CO2 + menthol, as a ternary system, were determined. Experimental data was achieved at 308, 318, 328 and 338 K at different pressures ranging from 12 to 30 MPa. The solubility of sertraline in the binary system was found to range from 0.100 x 10(-5) to 0.930 x 10(-4) mole fractions, while that in the ternary system exhibited solubility values between 0.61 x 10(-4) and 0.89 x 10(-3) mole fractions, indicating the significant effect of adding menthol on the solubility of sertraline in SC-CO2. In addition, the solubility of sertraline in both systems was correlated to empirical and semiempirical density-based models. The solubility results from this research would be helpful in the selection of supercritical fluid method for production of sertraline nanoparticles. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
