Influence of Surgical Procedures on Serum Paraoxonase-1-Related Variables and Markers of Inflammation in Hospitalized Patients

Simona Iftimie et al.

Summary: Surgical stress can lead to reduced serum PON1 activities and elevated acute phase response in hospitalized patients. The longer the time elapsed after surgery and the duration of the procedure, the lower the PON1 activity and the higher the CRP concentration. Laparotomy and local/regional anesthesia may have different effects on PON1 activity and CRP concentration in surgical patients.
