The blue LLP (long-lasting phosphorescent) material Zr1-0.5xP2O7:Mn-x(2+) was prepared by high temperature solid state method. The luminescent properties of Zr1-0.5xP2O7:Mn-x(2+) were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction, excitation and emission spectra, decay curves and thermoluminescence spectra. The excitation and emission spectra show the excitation peak at 281 nm and the emission peak at 467 nm. The analyses of XPS, EPR and TL spectra manifest the defects of oxygen vacancies. Defects with suitable trap depths and high concentration are mainly responsible for the improvement of the blue light emission of Zr4+. Working mechanisms of the phosphors were explored.
