A fully integrated AC-DC power converter that faces a mains voltage of 120 VRMS, 60Hz is presented. The converter achieves an increased operating range and efficiency due to a switching capacitor that relies on the principles of charge redistribution and the memory effect. As such, the converter mimics a variable voltage division to bridge the voltage gap between the high mains and low DC output. Customized AC switches and a high-voltage capacitor ensure the high voltage capability. The AC-DC power converter is designed in a 0.35 mu m-CMOS technology and achieves an output power of 15.16 mu W at peak efficiency of 80.7% on an active area of 9.8mm(2).
