In order to find a more effective intelligent method for truss optimization, we proposed an improved bat algorithm and introduced it into truss optimization. The initial population was optimized by using the good point set weighted approach in bat optimization formula. Individuals with high fitness were retained and individuals with low fitness were eliminated. And the learning factor was introduced to enhance the global search ability of bat algorithm. The improved BA (bat algorithm) was applied to the topology optimization of truss and the optimization results were compared with other algorithms. Experiments show that the improved bat algorithm has better global optimization ability. This study provides an efficient algorithm for structural optimization.
