An efficient method for the synthesis of 2-acetamido-4-arylthiazol-5-yl derivatives via a novel one-pot three-component reaction of arylglyoxals, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds such as Meldrum's acid or barbituric acid, and acetylthiourea in ethanol is reported.
