Understanding adolescent anorexia evolves. Some evidence based data question the practices centered on the separation with the family used in the field in France. The purpose of this paper is to trace the experience of a French adolescent psychiatry department throughout the construction of changing care conditions of anorexia in adolescents. The treatment evolved from complete separation with the family environment to a structured care without separation. The difficulties faced by teams, families and teenagers at the time of using the device of separation are analyzed. The gradual construction of a care course involving families is described and explained. (C) 2016 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
