This article presents a short review of the knowledge concerning multi-layered fullerenes, also known as onion-like carbons or carbon nano-onions. In this article, the most important literature in this area is reviewed in a condensed way that presents these nanostructures, their unusual physical and chemical properties and their potential uses. This article focuses mainly on biomedical applications and areas where the electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties of these materials are applied. Currently, this field of research seems promising, and interest in this area is growing.
