The work consists of the development of proximal safety indicators to assess the safety of an un-signalized intersection in the city of Surat, India. The present study highlights the significance of proactive evaluation to assess the safety level of intersections using post encroachment time (PET) measure. In the present study, the critical speed of the conflicting vehicles at intersection has also been analyzed for assessing extremity of conflicts using PET values. Also, the effect of speed bumps on PET as well as crash frequencies was investigated. Furthermore, the effect of volume and vehicular speeds on PET has been studied using sensitivity analysis through microscopic simulation.
