Removal of colorants from wastewater: A review on sources and treatment strategies

Treatments of dye wastewater from the industries are to be done in order to control the negative impact to our environment due to polluted water. In this review, recent technologies for the removal of dyes from wastewater are discussed briefly. The technologies such as coagulation, membrane treatment, advanced oxidation process, biological treatment and adsorption, their performance, features, advantages and disadvantages have been highlighted. From the review, it is concluded that advanced oxidation process, biological treatment and adsorption are frequently used techniques for dye removal and large numbers of research were done in the field of adsorption in recent years.
