Large amounts of fluoride ions can cause harm to human bones, organs and nervous system, thereby affecting human health. So using probes for detection of fluoride ions in living cells and environment is particularly important and has attracted much chemists' attention. This review introduces probes for detection of fluoride ions with different methods including colorimetric and fluorometric methods and their applications in biomedicine and environment in recent five years. These probes roughly divided into two types, based on hydrogen type probes and reaction-based probes. Moreover, future developments of fluoride ions detection are also introduced in this review.
