The synthesis of nucleic acid-functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is described. The metal-organic frameworks are loaded with a dye being locked in the structures by means of stimuliresponsive nucleic acid caps. The pH and K+-ion-triggered release, and switchable release, are demonstrated.
