A diverse range of functionalized N-alkyl/substituted alkyl, S-2-nitro-1-arylethyl dithiocarbamates (4) has been synthesized following a modified protocol based on a three-component tandem reaction between amines (1), carbon disulfide (2), and substituted beta-nitrostyrenes (3) at ambient temperature. Large scale synthetic application and an investigation to explore the mechanistic aspects of the reaction have also been performed.
