The high strength Fe-Ni-P ternary alloys were fabricated using Fe-Ni-P composite powder by liquid sintering technique. The effects of the sintering temperature on the microstructure and properties are investigated. The phase composition of the sintered Fe-Ni-P alloys are mainly consisted of alpha-Fe(Ni,P), gamma-Fe(Ni,P), and (Fe,Ni)(3)P. The microstructure mainly depends on the sintering temperature and the Fe/Ni ratio. A persistent liquid phase dominates the sintering process, leading to a highest density of 7.56 g cm(-3) at 1 000 degrees C. The sample sintered at 975 degrees C reveals a good combination of magnetic and mechanical properties with a compressive strength of 2 060 MPa and a saturation magnetization of 95.74 emu g(-1), which indicates its potential application as wear resistant magnetic material.
