1-benzyl-4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole was prepared using an environmental friendly and facile synthetic procedure and its performance as an organic corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1.0 mol L-1 HCl was investigated using four different methods. An average efficiency of 81.7% was obtained with 2.13 mmol L-1 solutions of the organic compound. A new approach to classical electrochemical analyses confirms the inhibitor adsorption on the metal surface. Temperature effect studies in the oxidation inhibition behavior as well as calculated thermodynamic parameters are consistent with a chemisorption process and Atomic Force Microscopy shows the formation of a protective film.
