A quasistatic hysteresis model is established to investigate the performance of elastic wave propagation in two dimensional magneto-elastic phononic crystals (PCs) with the nonlinear magneto-mechanical coupling hysteretic constitutive behavior of magnetostrictive materials when subjected to magnetic field and pre-stress. Through the example of Terfenol-D/epoxy PCs, it is revealed that the characteristics of band structures are hysteresis-dependent and remarkably affected by pre-stress due to the nature of the hysteresis behavior for Terfenol-D. Consequently, the study of hysteresis induced band structures in magneto-elastic PCs is significant and essential for intelligent regulation of phononic devices in engineering.
