Mesoporous rutile TiO2 with a cereus-shaped structure was synthesized through a low-temperature sol-gel synthesis approach in a bromide ionic liquid/water mixture. The electrochemical Li-storage performance of the annealed material exhibits a high reversible capacity, long cycling stability, and excellent rate capability.
