Novel naphthalimide fluorescent organic nanoparticles with aggregation-induced emission enhancement properties were designed and synthesized, which were used as a highly selective and sensitive turn-on fluorescent probe for Fe3+ detection in water. Fluorescence imaging experiments of Fe3+ ions in living cells demonstrated the value of this probe for practical applications in biological systems.
