A commercial ion exchange resin was used to remove Cr2O72- from Cr6+-containing wastewater, which was carbonized to produce porous carbon possessing a high graphitic degree and large specific surface area. Symmetric supercapacitors based on this porous carbon exhibited superior rate capability.
