The electrochemical activity of electrospun nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (NCNFs) for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acid media was greatly enhanced by introducing iron species. Apart from high activity, the Fe-NCNFs exhibited excellent durability because of the porous structure, high quaternary- and pyridinic-N doping and the formation of large bended graphitic carbons. The developed Fe-NCNFs could be a promising alternative to commercial Pt/C catalyst. (C) 2013 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
