A new advanced Li-ion battery comprising a high performance amorphous columnar silicon thin film anode and high specific capacity xLi(2)MnO(3)center dot(1-x) LiNiyMnzCo1-y-zO2 cathode is reported. The combination of these two high capacity electrodes ensures high energy density of the full Li ion battery. This feature makes this battery very promising energy storage for electric vehicles. The battery has excellent performance in term of cycle life, charge-discharge efficiency and good rate capability. (c) 2013 The Electrochemical Society.
