A ratiometric fluorescent probe for ClO- has been developed based on coumarin-hemicyanine, which displayed a colorimetric and fluorescence response to ClO- with high selectivity, fast response (within 2 min) and an extremely low detection limit (0.08 mu M). This probe was successfully used to visualize hypochlorite in living cells.
