A visible light excitable new fluorescence probe (APC) has been used for determination of arsenate in drinking water of Purbasthali in West Bengal, India. APC-functionalized Merrifield polymer is very efficient for removal of arsenate from contaminated water. APC can successfully monitor intracellular arsenate in microbes grown in arsenate affected water under a fluorescence microscope. Arsenate induced fluorescence enhancement of APC has been rationalized from intra-molecular H-bonding assisted conversion of TICT to PICT, supported by H-1 NMR titration and mass spectrometry studies.
