Porous Au/alpha-Fe2O3 NRs are one-pot synthesized, and used as gas sensors for in situ VOCs detection. The sensor shows four times higher response to C6H6 than a pure alpha-Fe2O3 sensor and short response/recovery time (<30 s), which may be useful to establish an effective C6H6 real-timemonitoring systemin environmental protection and oil reservoirs' prediction.
