Dry reforming of methane into syngas was studied over complex Pt-promoted fluorite-like oxides (PrCeZrO, GdCeZrO and LaCeZrO) supported on a corundum substrate. Activity and syngas selectivity of these catalysts were found to depend strongly on their composition, pretreatment and reaction conditions. At low temperatures and short contact times, the H(2)/CO ratio in the syngas is below 1 due to a fast reverse water-gas shift reaction. The catalyst performance was found to correlate with the bulk oxygen mobility in complex fluorite-like oxides, which prevents the surface coking.
