Achilles tendinopathy is a common disorder, but the pathology is still not completely understood. For example, some treatment methods are reported to be effective because they increase neovessel formation, whereas other emerging treatments aim to reduce the number of neovessels. Nonetheless, most patients find relief with traditional conservative treatments. The subset of patients with persistent symptoms is the target of these emerging techniques. With the exception of EE, which are noninvasive, low-cost, and readily available, further prospective studies are needed to demonstrate clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness of other nonoperative treatment methods.
