This perspective article intends to give an overview and critical summary of investigations and achievements with respect to the use of polysaccharides as supports in coupling reactions and also treats cyclodextrins as ligand materials. The field has matured substantially warranting a summary and analysis of developments. The results collected permit to sum up the major achievements, outline the problems associated with the use of these unique materials concerning mainly stability and recyclability and, finally, put an emphasis on the necessity of further progress with related useful suggestions.
