A magnetically recoverable iron oxide (gamma-Fe2O3) nanocatalyst (MRIONC) has been synthesized and characterized by XRD, FT-IR, XPS and TEM techniques and it was found that MRIONC is a new and highly efficient green catalyst for the synthesis of 2-phenylquinazolines from 2-aminoarylketones and benzyl amines under solvent free conditions, and in addition MRIONC could be easily recovered by a simple magnetic separation and recycled at least 5 times without significant loss in catalytic activity.
