The homocoupling of terminal alkynes under heterogeneous catalysis is tackled in this perspective. The performance of different unsupported and supported catalysts, primarily based on palladium and copper, is analyzed from a critical point of view. This type of coupling provides the most direct access to 1,3-diynes,which can found in nature and are very important compounds in organic synthesis.
