In this communication, we demonstrated the use of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets for inhibition of Cu metal corrosion. GO nanosheets are synthesized according to the modified Hummers method and thin films of GO nanosheets are deposited onto copper substrates. Electrochemical methods, namely polarization analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques, are employed to study the corrosion inhibition of Cu using the GO coating. The protective efficiency of the GO-coated Cu substrates obtained from the Tafel analysis approaches 70% when compared to the bare copper substrate. Our results ensure the potential utility of GO towards their applications in the development of corrosion-resistant coatings.
