Evolution of the KL X-ray satellite line was studied. Four theoretical models based on the adiabatic approximation were fitted to the experimental data for the intensity ratio of the satellite line relative to the diagram line for Fe and Zn as a function of incident photon energy. The Thomas, the Vatai, the Roy and the modified Roy (Roy2) models were considered. Comparison of these four models was made for the case of inner-shell electron transitions and their difference was clarified. The reason that the models developed for bound-bound transitions can give satisfactory results for bound-free transitions is discussed. Copyright (C) 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
