An influenza virus, A/canine/Shandong/JT01/2009, has been isolated from a dog exhibiting classical flu signs in China. HAI and NAI assays subtyped A/canine/Shandong/JT01/2009 as a H5N2 like virus. Phylogenetic reconstructions indicated strong relationships with viruses from various hosts and dispersed geographic locations. These analyses indicate A/canine/Shandong/JT01/2009 is a novel virus generated by complex reassortment of the viral segments. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
