The electrochemical reactions occurring during the deposition of nickel from the acetate bath with various additives have been studied using a cyclic voltammetric technique. The influence of the addition of nickel chloride, boric acid and additives such as 2-butyne-1,4-diol, coumarin and saccharin in the acetate bath has been systematically investigated. From the surface coverage data, the Gibbs free energy change (Delta G(a)(0)) for the absorption of the brightener has been calculated.
