Chromatography technology based on chiral stationary phases (CSPs) for enantioseparation is widely used for resolution and preparation of biochemicals (e.g., drugs, foods, fragrances and pollutants). In this review, we focus on the development of CSPs for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), including the recognition mechanism, applications and limitations of classical CSPs, newly discovered types of CSP, and also the methods for the rational design of future CSPs on the basis of computational chemistry.
