We review the state of the art in atmospheric passive sampling for semi-volatile organic compounds. After a brief section on principles and theory, we focus on calibration approaches using different passive samplers. We report a selected number of applications for some passive samplers and identify some key issues to improve the performance and the accuracy of passive samplers. We then suggest and discuss possible developments. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
