Nanomaterial-amplified chemiluminescence (CL) has become a growing area of interest in recent years. We review the development of nanomaterial-amplified CL systems and their applications in bioassays. We mainly focus on nanoparticles (gold, platinum, silver, bimetallic, semiconductor and magnetic). Furthermore, we discuss some critical challenges in this field and possible solutions to overcome these challenges. (c) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
