Quaternary alpha-amino acids play vital roles in protein and synthetic chemistries. Stereoselective access to such molecules has been an intensive focus of research in recent years, and new methods are continuously being explored. The present mini-review gives an overview of stereoselective syntheses of quaternary alpha-amino acids produced from racemic oxazolones. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
