A new and efficient synthesis of tricyclic 4-pyridone analogs through the intramolecular Heck coupling cyclization was described. This reaction features mild conditions and good functional group tolerance allowing for the preparation of several novel tricyclic 4-pyridone analogs. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
