An efficient, two-operation synthesis of the trail ant pheromone (+/-)-monomorine is reported. The synthesis features an aqueous Claisen-Schmidt condensation followed by the stereocontrolled installation of the three resident stereocenters in a single operation. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
