Cyanine dye Cy5 was used to be a probe for highly selective detection of trace cyanide in water by using a convenient two-phase strategy. The detection limit of both the fluorescent and colorimetric assay for cyanide is below 1.9 mu M, the maximal allowance level for drinking water set by the World Health Organization.
