We report herein the use of triphenylphosphine (TPP) as a new catalyst for the one-pot Biginelli reaction coupling of beta-ketoesters, aldehydes and urea (or thiourea) to afford the corresponding dihydropyrimidinones/thiones. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
