5-Sulfonamidopyrazoles were efficiently synthesized from terminal alkynes, sulfonyl azides and hydrozones. The sequential reaction involves a copper-catalyzed three-component reaction, a Lewis acid-catalyzed electrocyclic reaction and a dehydrogenation. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
